Energy costs are an important item in the budget of Italian households. Annually we spend between 1,500 and 2,000 euros per year to heat or cool our homes. Still, this expenditure could be reduced by up to 50%. By undertaking energy efficiency measures in buildings and systems, we can make the homes we live in more comfortable in both winter and in summer. Even more benefits can be achieved through new and innovative lifestyles.
Despite the fact that current regulations require transparency in home heating and cooling consumption information, it has been unavailable or incorrect in much of the country. As a result, we continue to live in energy inefficient houses without knowing the where and how of our energy consumption.
For this reason, the new Legambiente CIVICO 5.0 campaign was begun which is dedicated to energy efficiency in buildings and technologies and the sharing economy for condominiums. It offers a new opportunity not only to again bring attention to efficiency efforts and climate and air pollution issues but also to underline the role administrators, builders and designers play in rethinking continually more sustainable solutions for new and especially existing buildings. The campaign also makes families the main players in these changes. In fact, the campaign is designed not only with the aim of driving the entire supply chain around condominiums and their living quality, but also to provide concrete tools for improving both these factors.
Monitoring is carried out by Legambiente technicians within the condominiums of the Italian families participating in the initiative with the aim of undertaking three possible types of analysis: thermographic, electricity consumption and indoor pollution analyses. The families involved receive a customised data sheet containing results, critical issues encountered and potential solutions.
Open Day for Condominiums
17 April 2018 will an Open day for Condominiums. Condominiums will become centres hosting events, exhibitions, readings, insights, guided tours, aperitifs and much more on that day. This event will provide space for the imagination through the events held in the condominiums.
Presentation of results
The results of the campaign, monitoring and best practices will be collected and disseminated through a national event. The aim is to push national policy and stakeholders to find solutions guided by the continuing goals of combating climate change, reducing resource use and improving the quality of life for citizens.
